Austin talks about individuals with less than honorable intentions offering to do yard work and repair work after Hurricane Helene damage.
Transcript:
Austin: As you might expect, we’re getting all kinds of reports, community-wide of individuals who have less than, well, let’s just say, honorable intentions when it comes to doing yard work and repair work around your home.
Number one, be very careful about giving money to anyone before the work actually starts, obviously. Number two, try and stay local if possible. Now, I understand that’s almost an impossibility right now because there is so much work to be done and so few people that are qualified to actually do it. At the same time, try and use an established business person who has credentials that you can easily verify at the very least. Real stationery, business cards, that type of thing.
And in this day and age, you can almost always check people out on the Internet. Always try and do that if possible. And finally, again, make sure that who you’re dealing with is, well, let’s say, qualified to do what they’re doing.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of folks out there who are claiming to be electricians, plumbers, that kind of thing, that have absolutely no professional expertise in those particular fields. Again, a cursory check of the Internet these days pretty much establishes people’s background, or at least you can pretty much establish their background in a given area.
And if you can’t find any proof that someone has credentials or, you know, paper proof on them, you know, a business license, things of that nature, you think very, very hard about making a substantial investment.
At the very least, try and pay them with a credit card, if at all possible. A lot of times, if there are problems with work being done, credit card companies will let you address that and you’ll have some recourse. Just be very careful. There are a lot of crooks out there and sadly, they’re getting away with a lot of devilment.
And that’s the comment. I’m Austin Rhodes. 95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
