Christmas Tree Shops Permanently Closed in Augusta

Earlier this month, we learned that Christmas Tree Shops was the latest retailer to announce it was going out of business.

The holiday-themed, home goods retailer announced July 5 it was closing more than 80 locations nationwide after defaulting on a $45 million loan. That included the store on Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway in the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center.

Liquidation sales started just days later, but just last week company officials said stores would be closing sometime in Augusta.  That's not the case here though. Doors closed for good Sunday in Augusta. Greeting cards, a few seasonal items and store fixtures were all that remained on Saturday.

Sunday was also the last day Bed, Bath and Beyond was open in the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center. Buybuy Baby is still showing the store is open as of this morning, but it too is shutting down operations.

O'Charley's Restaurant and Bar closed unexpectedly earlier this year at the entrance to the shopping center.

While a handful of businesses have closed at the Augusta Exchange Shopping Center, two will be opening soon. BrandsMart USA will be opening in the former Ashley Furniture Stores location, and Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q is building a new location at the site of the former Macaroni Grill. Jim 'N Nick's has more than 40 locations in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
