Augusta University students who were planning to move into Oak Hall campus residence for the fall semester will now have alternate living arrangements until the end of the year.

Heavy damage was done to several rooms at the dorm due to flooding in April.  University officials say they have learned from Corvias Property Management that renovation work is going to take longer than expected and the building won't be ready for students when they return later this month.

A statement from Augusta University says:  "Last week during the renovation process, additional areas of water damage were identified.  The delay in occupancy will ensure the residence hall meets the university's expectations for the health, safety and campus life experience of its student residents."

AU officials say alternate housing and move-in assistance will be provided for the affected students.  The university will also provide campus shuttle routes, resident assistants and on-site security for the alternate housing locations.

Oak Hall is expected to be ready for move-in during the winter break, prior to the beginning of the spring semester, provided officials have occupancy certification from building inspectors after the renovations have been completed.

Augusta University fall semester begins August 16.  Students moving into housing are expected to begin arriving August 10.
