An Augusta man was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler and a tow truck Tuesday afternoon in Lexington County.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says 63-year-old Walter Elliott Wilkins of Augusta was killed in the crash.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher says Wilkins was wearing a seat belt. He was behind the wheel of the semi when it collided with a tow truck on U.S. 178/Fairview Road in the Pelion area and died at the scene.
The tow truck driver was seriously hurt and was taken to an area hospital.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Tuesday’s fatal accident marked the third consecutive day that a fatal crash was reported in Lexington County, and the fourth in the past six days.
