Walmart Shooting Victim Leaves Hospital
The 13-year-old girl who was seriously wounded in a random shooting last week at Walmart on Whiskey Road in Aiken has been released from the hospital.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Ashley Rickard said her daughter, Ashton, was released from Augusta University Medical Center Thursday afternoon, but still has a long road ahead where her recovery is concerned.
Ashton was shot in the arm and abdomen while shopping with her mother June 7. She’s already undergone multiple surgeries and still has another one scheduled next week to repair fractured bones in her wrist. Ashton required over 14 units of blood during her hospital stay and Ashley says her family wants to give back to Shepeard Community Blood Center.
Mercy Church, which the Rickard family attends, is holding a blood drive tomorrow for Shepeard Community Blood Center at the church at 2700 Whiskey Road in Aiken. The goal is to help replenish dwindling blood supplies with as many donors as possible. The blood drive will be held from noon until 6 p.m. McDonald’s is providing food for the event.
