Austin Rhodes Leads Support For Patches the Horse
In a few short days, the GoFundMe set up by Austin Rhodes in honor of Patches the Horse raised over $6,000.
If you haven’t heard this story, Patches was owned by a family in South Augusta. The family often brought their horses for children in the community to pet and get to know them. The horses drew a big crowd in Dogwood Terrace one afternoon. The family had brought Patches and their other horses for the “city kids” to experience these incredible animals.
Unfortunately, during this gathering, shots rang out. That is where 8-year-old Arbrie Anthony was shot and killed. And Patches was also shot, and later died.
Austin Rhodes was determined to learn more about the horse owners… to thank them for serving the community, but also to support them during their time of loss. Patches was a beloved pet, who brought smiled to so many children.
Community Support
After learning more about Patches and her owners, Austin wanted to help. He learned that her owner was actually in the saddle when those gunshots started. While both Patches and Buck (the other horse the family had brought that day) were spooked by the gunshots, they responded to their handlers without panicking.
It wasn’t until hours after returning home, that Patches’ owner found her laying in the pasture. It was then they realized she had been struck by a bullet. She passed away later than night from the injury.
Austin immediately sprung into action and created the GoFundMe page to assist with the expenses of the burial for Patches, and to help this family be able to continue their community visits throughout Augusta, to bring joy to children and adults alike.
Thank you, CSRA, for stepping up and helping raising over $6,000 in just a few short days. We know the family will be forever grateful for your love and support during a tough time.
