Austin talks about a referendum in Florida that would allow recreational use of marijuana for people 21 and over.

Transcript:

Austin: A statewide referendum in Florida this November will put the issue to the voters. Should marijuana be made legal for recreational use? They call it amendment three, and it would allow recreational marijuana use for people 21 and older. And this has to be approved by 60% or more of statewide voters.

I personally think it's going to happen, even though there are a number of politicians like Ron DeSantis who are against it. My personal belief on this has always been, if we allow alcohol to be legal in the state of Georgia, why in the world wouldn't we allow marijuana? Marijuana is a far less dangerous substance, particularly in large doses. Have you ever heard of anyone who has died from an overdose of marijuana? Absolutely not. However, people die from alcohol poisoning all the time.

And by the way, I'm not saying that either is a great idea. Consumption of alcohol or, use of marijuana. But if you're going to allow one, it seems incredibly hypocritical not to allow the other. Marijuana has been said on many occasions to have a far greater benefit to the system than alcohol ever did. I'm not going to argue that point. But again, if we are an adult society making this rule for people 21 and over, we are either going to allow adult vices or we're not.

And by the way, this has nothing to do with legalizing drug use of other descriptions, which, by the way, is going over like a lead balloon in other parts of the country. Amendment three, watch it very carefully in Florida. And again, as Florida goes, I think Georgia will also, if it passes, look for there to be increased pressure on Atlanta politicians to bring the issue to a ballot vote in our state, and that could be happening sooner rather than later. Stay tuned. Should be fun to watch, and that if you can stay awake long enough to watch it, right? Yeah. Okay. I'm Austin Rhodes, News Talk WGAC.
