Austin talks about the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Maryland.
Transcript:
Austin Rhodes: It is some of the most devastating and fascinating footage that we’ve seen of a massive structural collapse on American soil, certainly that I can remember. Baltimore’s famous Francis Scott Key Bridge bridge that I’ve crossed several times myself, collapsed in the middle of the night after a support column was struck by a huge shipping vessel, sending God knows how many cars and at least one large tractor trailer truck into the Baltimore harbor.
State of emergency has been declared by the governor, Wes Moore, and again, first responders continue to evaluate the scene. God bless the folks again that arrived instantly when this tragedy occurred. I’ve been told that there are numerous, stories of, attempted attempted rescues that unfortunately did not work out well where there were passers by. And again, first responders that actually got in the water, supposedly 30 degrees that the temperature of that water this morning in the middle of the night, rather as the, accident first occurred.
Quoting the mayor, quote, this is a tragedy you could never imagine. It looks like something out of an action movie. That’s Mayor Brandon Scott. And again, very, very thankful for the first responders who very selflessly and bravely, assisted those in need. Only at this point, a handful of survivors have been identified. One is listed in very critical condition in the hospital.
I mentioned this this morning is again, a reminder that these first responders are there for us. They’re for all of us at a moment’s notice, rushing into God knows what kind of risk, personal risk and danger themselves. These folks operate at a different level.
Our thoughts and prayers go to all involved. And again, our many thanks to the first responders all over this country who are always willing to do what those young men and women did in Baltimore overnight and continue to do to this very moment. God bless them all. And that’s the comment, I’m Austin Rhodes, AM 580/95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
Georgia Spot Among the Best Cheap Spring Break Trips
Spring break always arrives at just the right time. It’s when the holiday cheer has totally worn off, and it’s also right when spring is around the corner but it’s not quite here yet. I remember loving spring break in school. But, even if you’re not in school or college anymore, why not take a fun spring break trip this year? Thankfully, there are plenty of trendy, cheap spring break destinations available. One Georgia spot is even among the best cheap spring break trips in the US.
If you want to get the most bang for your buck, as they say, stay close to home. It doesn’t have to be a staycation. But, why not travel to a town that you’ve never been to that’s within road trip distance? Of course, if you live in a cold climate, you might want to travel to a hot spot. The good news is that a lot of warm spring break destinations have great rates, because tourist is simply their business. So, if you go to a popular spring break spot, chances are they’ll have some good deals and be able to cut you a good deal due to just how many people who travel there each year.
The perfect spring break destination is really about getting away from it all. You want a place that fun and exciting. But, you also want a spot that really helps you break away from routine and, hopefully, your electronic devises. Another bonus is if you find a spring break destination near friends who you maybe haven’t seen in a while. It can be a really fun trip to find a central location and meet up with long-lost friends.
