The Marion Barnes Career Center is holding a Skilled Trades Summer Camp from June 24th through the 28th From 8 AM to 12PM. Students from 8th grade through 12th grade in Richmond County can sign up using their MySchool Bucks account for only $25!
Skilled Trades Summer Camp
Students will get the chance to learn from local industry experts and experienced professionals in the field they're most interested in. This includes fields like welding, carpentry, electrical, cosmetology, or nails. It's a summer camp with hands-on experience that can pay off big dividends later in life!
A Practical Option
When I was a teenager going to college seemed to be the only option after high school. The general consensus among my friends was that the only way to make big money was with a college degree. That's just not the case anymore. Tuition, even at a local community college can put you in debt that can take years to pay off. The smarter option seems to be acquiring a trade skill that can pay for itself much quicker and get your young person into a lucrative career with a promising future!
Hands-On Experience
There's just no substitution for hands-on experience, and students will get the chance to do just that. Getting their hands dirty is just the beginning! They'll be able to figure out what their chosen field has to offer them in the future. In turn, it gives them confidence and a practical goal to work towards. This summer camp will only be for a few days. But they'll be laying the groundwork for a top-notch profession that will yield a profit as they grow into maturity.
Having these skills are valuable. As of March 4, 2024, the average hourly pay for an Entry Level Welder in Georgia is $20.40 an hour! Electricians are one of the most in-demand skilled trades in the country. An apprentice electrician in Georgia can snag as much as $17.35 an hour! Sending your kid to a camp like this is giving them a huge boost in starting their chosen career!
