Two Dead in Separate Richmond County Weekend Hit-and-Runs Identified
Two people were killed in separate hit-and-run incidents in Richmond County Saturday night.
Coroner Mark Bowen said the first one was reported at 7:35 pm on Lumpkin Road near Fleming Drive in south Augusta. The sheriff’s office responded to a report of a hit-and-run fatality involving a pedestrian. When deputies arrived, they say a woman was hit while riding her bicycle and witnesses said the driver left the scene. The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Joni Mitchell of Overlook Road in Augusta. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the second incident about a mile away, a pedestrian was hit while walking in the 3100 block of Richmond Hill Road. Bowen said 39-year-old Broderick Parker of the 2900 block of Richmond Hill Road was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office says the driver left the vehicle at the scene and fled on foot.
Drivers in both incidents are still being sought. Autopsies have been scheduled for both victims.
