An Augusta moped rider was hit Sunday night by a driver who left the scene of the accident.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office was called to 13th Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard last night at 9:30 pm to a report of an accident involving a moped.

Authorities say 65-year-old Duane Rutledge of Augusta was struck from behind and the driver left the scene.

Rutledge was taken to Wellstar MCG where he died at 8:48 this morning as a result of his injuries.

Investigators have now released information about the vehicle believed to have been involved in the hit-and-run.

  • 2015-2020 Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban
  • Last seen traveling north on Martin Luther King Boulevard from 13th Avenue
  • Vehicle should have front end damage.
