Allegations of inappropriate relationship between Evans High School employee and a former student are under investigation

Evans High School teacher and head football coach Barrett Davis is no longer employed by the Columbia County School District.

Earlier this week allegations surfaced of an inappropriate relationship between Davis and a former student.

A letter from Principal Wade White to parents explained that an investigation was underway, adding that Davis had been placed on administrative leave.

The Columbia County School District released a statement today, announcing that Davis was no longer working at Evans High School.

"Please know that in any situation concerning allegations of inappropriate behavior by a staff member, not only will be investigate fully, we will also use every resource available to pursue prosecution in order to keep inappropriate behavior out of classrooms and schools."

Evans High School Coach Work History

Davis, who was hired as a physical education teacher and the Knights head football coach in 2021, previously worked as an assistant coach in Burke County, and as an assistant coach at Lakeside High School before getting a head coaching job in Statesboro.

In today's news release, Columbia County School District officials said the investigation of allegations against Davis will continue.

"We apologize for the distraction and concern this incident may have caused students, staff and their families, and we thank those who have come forward with information. Suspicious activity should immediately be reported to administration or the Columbia County School District Police. We take all reports extremely seriously and will investigate fully so we can continue to provide a safe, positive environment for students and staff."
