A concerning social media post suggesting a potential act of violence at Cross Creek High School in Richmond County prompted a response today from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

"The Richmond County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) Intelligence Division, Criminal Investigative Division, and Gang Task Force, with support from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, are thoroughly investigating this post. As of today, no verifiable threat has been identified. However, the investigation remains active and ongoing," according to the news release.

Cross Creek was scheduled to host a basketball tournament today. The Sheriff's Office announced today it has been cancelled.

A Concerning Social Media Post Under Investigation

In the initial news release, Chief of Staff Lewis Blanchard said, "the RCSO Crime Suppression Team has been deployed to ensure the safety and security of the event. Additionally, RCSO Deputies will conduct extra patrols both today and when school resumes." Again, today's tournament has been cancelled.

"We encourage anyone with credible information related to this situation to contact us immediately," said Blanchard.
