A man was finally rescued late Wednesday afternoon, two hours after a building collapsed on him in North Augusta.

The 24-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was reportedly in an old pool house that was scheduled to be torn down in the 200 block of Vancouver Road.

Authorities say four men were reportedly preparing the building for demolition when it suddenly collapsed. Three of the workers were able to run to safety, but another was still inside and was trapped under the rubble.

Collapsed Building Required Many Rescue Workers

More than two dozen responders from Aiken County, Richmond County, North Augusta, Merriwether and the Savannah River Site worked to extricate the man, which required the Jaws of Life.

He was placed in an ambulance, then taken to a nearby helicopter and flown to Wellstar MCG.

The man is still in the hospital, but is expected to recover from his injuries.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
