Woman Hits Columbia County Deputy’s Vehicle While Trying to Flee from Traffic Stop
A Columbia County woman is behind bars for hitting a deputy’s patrol car and another motorist’s vehicle as she attempted to flee a traffic stop.
The sheriff’s office says it all started when 34-year-old Danielle Lambert was being pursued Monday following an alleged shoplifting incident at Academy Sports in Evans.
An incident report from the sheriff’s office says Lambert told the deputy trying to stop her that she was on her way home to her son on Brooks Drive. A second deputy arrived and blocked Lambert’s vehicle in, but authorities say she hit the deputy’s car as he attempted to approach her.
“She immediately shifted the vehicle into reverse and accelerated backward, turning the wheel to maneuver her vehicle around Deputy Timothy Phillips,” according to a statement from Deputy Joshua Mountain. “While traveling in reverse, Danielle hit me with the front of her vehicle, knocking me off balance before continuing backward into the front of my patrol vehicle,” said Mountain.
Authorities say Lambert left the scene and then hit another person’s vehicle on Englewood Drive. That’s where she was finally taken into custody.
Major Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says investigators found 11 grams of fentanyl in Lambert’s car. She’s been charged with Trafficking Fentanyl, two counts each of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Fleeing Police, Obstruction, Interference with Government Property and Driving on a Suspended License. She’s being held in the Columbia County Detention Center.
