A woman was attacked by two dogs this morning in the 3500 block of Ira Road in Augusta, leading to her death.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene at 10:29 am.

Dog Attack Is Under Investigation

"Upon arrival, deputies located a female victim who had been attacked by two dogs. The victim succumbed to her injuries," according to Sgt. John Perry.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen was called to the scene.

"An adult female was walking on Ira Road when she was attacked by at least one dog. The female was pronounced dead at the scene," said Bowen.

Bowen said she was identified as 21-year-old Samara Rogers. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Hours after the attack, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office charged 55-year-old Charles David Blackwell with Involuntary Manslaughter in connection with Rogers' death.

The investigation is in its early stages and no other information has been released yet.
