A shooting near Josey High School late this morning left one student injured and another on-the-run.

The Richmond County School System confirmed there was an altercation on Forester Street near Josey involving one student from Murphey Middle School and the other from the Alternative School at Morgan Road.

Shooting Near Josey High School Send One to the Hospital

The fight led to the shooting, which sent a female juvenile student to an area hospital with what were believed to be non life-threatening injuries.

At last word, the alleged shooter was still being sought.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. School officials say the incident will also be addressed following the Code of Student Conduct and Discipline.

"The safety of our students is our highest priority and we take these incidents seriously to ensure the well-being of our students and staff. We will communicate with our families and let them know that counselors are available to talk with their children if they are feeling any anxiety or distress as a result of this incident," according to a statement from the Richmond County School System.
