An Aiken veterinarian was taken into custody Sunday night after her husband was found dead in their home in the Hitchcock Crossing neighborhood.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a report of a domestic-related incident in the 1000 block of Prides Crossing Sunday evening.

Investigators say 43-year-old Greg Baughman was found with at least one gunshot wound.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said Baughman was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:30 pm.

Baughman's wife, Dr. Jennifer Ray, was taken into custody and charged with his murder.

Details about what led up to the shooting have not been released.

Aiken Veterinarian and her Husband Owned Local Animal Hospital

Ray and Baughman purchased the property where Hitchcock Animal Hospital is located on Summerwood Way in Aiken in 2019. The building was renovated into a state-of-the-art animal hospital that opened in June of 2020.

At the time, Ray had 14 years experience as a veterinarian, while Baughman had 20 years combined experience in supervision and management with UPS and the United States Marine Corps. Together, they owned and operated Hitchcock Animal Hospital.
