Jordan Spieth Family Foundation Awards Grant to Children’s Hospital of Georgia
Children’s Hospital of Georgia has been chosen to receive a grant from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation of Dallas, Texas.
The grant will help fund a full-time social worker and travel expenses for pediatric cancer patients and their families at the state’s second largest children’s hospital, right here in Augusta.
A dedicated social worker at the hospital will play a significant role in the identification of patients, needs assessments and the distribution of the patient assistance funds. “One of the most difficult aspects of pediatric cancer is the overall stress associated with having a chronically ill child in complicated treatment, traveling back and forth to Augusta, and the physical and emotional impact of these stressors on the patient and family,” said Dr. Valera Hudson, pediatrician-in-chief at Children’s Hospital of Georgia and chair of the Department of Pediatrics for the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.
A news release says in addition to supporting a dedicated pediatric hematology/oncology social worker the remainder of the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation grant will create a patient financial assistance fund to provide supplementary financial support for cancer patients and their families.
The Jordan Spieth Family Foundation has four specific missions: to support individuals with special needs; junior golf, military families and veterans; and pediatric cancer.
Jordan Spieth, a three-time PGA major winner, won the Masters in 2015. He’s back in Augusta this week for a shot at a second green jacket. He’s currently 16th in the world golf rankings.
