UGA Football Legend Charley Trippi Has Died
One of the most versatile players to ever wear a Georgia Bulldog football uniform has died. Charley Trippi, who was named All-American in 1946 passed away at him home in Athens on Wednesday. He was 100 year old.
Trippi was a star for the Bulldogs, playing multiple positions on offense and defense in the 1940’s. In addition to being named the 1943 Rose Bowl Outstanding Player, he helped lead the team to the National Championship.
According to dawgnation.com, Trippi got a visit in December from Kirby Smart to celebrate his 100th birthday.
“I was really overwhelmed,” Smart said in a statement put out by the school at the time. “He was perhaps the greatest all-around football player on our campus. Many historians and observers have said that. And from reading about him, I understand why. He is proud to be a Bulldog. His legacy, like that of so many of the great players who have come through here, has enabled us to develop one of the great traditions in college football.”
