Cooling Shelters Available for Break From the Heat

It’s going to be extremely hot here this week, making it miserable for those who don’t have air conditioning.  If you need a place to take a break from the heat, several cooling shelters are now available.

In Richmond County, several places are available:

  • Bernie Ward Center, 1941 Lumpkin Road, 706-790-0588, Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • Blythe Center, 3129 Highway 88, 706-592-4988, Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • Carrie J. Mays Center, 1014 11th Avenue, 706-821-2828, Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • Robert Howard Community Center, 103 Diamond Lakes Way, 706-826-1370, Monday-Friday 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • Henry H. Brigham Center, 2463 Golden Camp Road, 706-771-2654, Monday-Friday 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • May Park, 622 4th Street, 706-724-0504, Monday-Friday 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • McBean Center, 1155 Hephzibah-McBean Road, 706-560-2628, Monday-Friday 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  • Sand Hills Center, 2540 Wheeler Road, 706-842-1912, Monday-Friday 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

In Columbia County:

Visit the Columbia County Library on North Belair Road, Patriot’s Park off Columbia Road, or any of the county’s public facilities during normal operating hours.
