Austin: It’s never been easy to be an Atlanta Falcons fan, and I say that as they are firmly established as my second favorite NFL team. But man alive, the frustrations that go with carrying affection for that team. Goodness gracious. Good to see that the ownership has finally moved on from the failure that was the last several years. The head coach, just not at seven and ten times three. My goodness gracious, terrible, terrible, terrible record.
In the meantime, you have to feel for Alabama fans and for that matter, fans of the New York, excuse me, the New England Patriots, who have been so greatly rewarded with their loyalty over the years. I mean, some fantastic finishes on behalf of Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. My goodness gracious. Literally the greatest head football coach in college football history when it comes to championships.
And what what in the world can you say about Bill Belichick? Except for the fact that he was completely made by Tom Brady? I mean, could the same statement be made about Chuck Noland, all those teams with the Steelers, or for that matter, Tom Landry and the Dallas Cowboys back in the day, or Don Shula and his teams and in Miami?
Folks, I got to tell you, being a faithful fan comes with its downside far more than its positive side. Think about it. In college football, you got one national championship. Everybody else is a loser. Think about it. In professional football, you get one Super Bowl champion. Everyone else is eventually a loser. But how well does that team play for you during the year? How well do you, as a fan, feel about being associated with that team? That’s where the real loyalty comes, not the winning and the losing, the quality of the experience.
I’m very, very happy with my team based on the quality of the experience. We do have six Super Bowl championships, but that means they’re how many others that we did not win. That’s just part of being a fan. Falcons fans, keep your eye on the prize. We hope and pray in the months, in the years to come that, uh, the right decisions will finally be made by the Falcons ownership. Then again, a tradition since 1966 of not doing it right continues in Georgia. And that’s the comment, I’m Austin Rhodes, AM 580/95.1 FM, News Talk WGAC.
