Augusta Man Killed In Two-Vehicle Crash Today
An Augusta man was killed in a two-vehicle crash late this morning in Augusta.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said 28-year-old Herbert Marcus Smith was behind the wheel of a vehicle that crossed the center line in the 2300 block of Walden Drive and hit a westbound vehicle head-on.
Smith, who had to be extricated from the car, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 a.m.
A passenger in Smith’s vehicle was transported to Wellstar MCG, but the person’s condition wasn’t known. Possible injuries to the other driver were not listed.
Bowen said an autopsy has been scheduled for Smith.
Two Fatal Accidents Reported in Aiken County Over the Weekend
A single vehicle accident claimed the life of a North Augusta man Friday night in Aiken County.
Coroner Darryl Ables says 41-year-old Stephen Rouse lost control of his vehicle in the 600 block of Sudlow Lake Road in North Augusta around 6:15 pm. The vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree. Ables says Rouse died at the scene from blunt force injuries.
On Saturday, a teenager was killed in a single vehicle wreck just after midnight Saturday in Aiken County.
Ables said 18-year-old Tanner Miller of Graniteville lost control of his truck on Schley Street. The vehicle veered off the road, hit a culvert and overturned, ejecting him.
Miller died at the scene from blunt force injuries.
Fatal Weekend Accident in Orangeburg County
A two-vehicle wreck in Orangeburg County Sunday afternoon left one dead and seven others hurt.
It happened around 2:40 pm on U.S. 301 at U.S. 176.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one of six people in one of the vehicles died while enroute to the hospital. A total of five people were airlifted to hospitals for treatment.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office are investigating the cause of the crash.
