New Belair Middle School Finally Set To Open
The new Belair Middle School on Potential Way off Wrightsboro Road is finally set to open its doors to students on Monday, January 6.
Construction on the new building began in 2022, with plans to accommodate as many as 1,000 students. A series of construction delays prevented the building from opening on time when the new school year began in August. Then there were even more delays after Hurricane Helene ravaged the area in late September.
Students and parents are invited to attend an open house at the new school later today from 4 to 6 pm. Students will be able to find their classrooms, while parents can review updated pick-up and drop off procedures.
The student body at the new Belair Middle will be made up of students who previously attended Bel Air K-8, Copeland Elementary, Langford Middle and rising 6th graders from Sue Reynolds Elementary.
The Richmond County School Board said the new Belair Middle School is part of a Facilities Masters Plan, which called for closing some schools, opening others and moving many students to other facilities to better utilize existing resources, as well as be eligible to receive more state funding.
New Belair Middle School Staff is Ready for Students
Belair Middle School Principal Ca’Vana Lambert said the entire staff is excited to offer opportunities for children to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
“At Belair Middle School, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment where every student can thrive,” said Lambert.
Students set to attend the new school January 6 have been attending classes at the former Langford Middle School on Walton Way since the school year began.
School district officials say Belair Middle School students will have the same class schedules, teachers, and bus routes at the new location Monday to minimize disruption.
