Aiken County Teen Killed in Single Vehicle Wreck This Morning
A single vehicle accident early this morning in Aiken County has claimed the life of a teenager.
Coroner Darryl Ables says 18-year-old Sydney McKie was in a car that crashed just after 2 am in the 4000 block of Augusta Road, South Carolina Highway 421, near Old Cherokee Road. The car ran off the road, hit a fence and landed in a ditch.
The Cause of the Accident is Under Investigation
Authorities say an investigation will determine whether McKie was the driver or a passenger.
McKie was taken to Wellstar MCG Health where she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries. An autopsy will be scheduled in Newberry.
The Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation.
