Columbia County Authorities Looking for Diaper Bag Thief

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is hoping someone can identify a woman who stole money from a diaper bag that was accidentally left in a shopping cart at a local Walmart store.

The victim said she realized she had left her child’s diaper bag in the cart, which was taken to the cart return area in the parking lot.  She noticed the bag was gone, then went into the store to see if anyone had returned it to Customer Service.

Employees said a black female, wearing a blue t-shirt and black shorts, returned the diaper bag to an employee in the front of the store.  The victim said she could tell someone had rummaged through the bag, then noticed $40 in cash was missing from her wallet.

Loss Prevention officers looked at security footage and saw the suspect retrieve the diaper bag from the shopping cart return in the parking lot.  They also saw her rummage through the bag, then return it to an employee in the store.

Anyone with information that could help identify the suspect is asked to contact Todd Brown in the Criminal Investigations Division at the Columbia County Sheriff’s office at (706) 541-2800.

Illegal Baby Names in Georgia and South Carolina

For new parents, naming your baby is usually a pretty big deal. Many will spend weeks or months leading up to the baby’s birth debating on a name.  While others want to wait until the child is born.  There are so many names out there… so it makes sense it takes time. You may decide to name the baby after a family member or friend.  Or maybe it’s a role model that had a huge impact on your life.  And yes, some people even name their babies after characters from their favorite TV shows or movies. But, did you know there are some illegal baby names?

According to US Birth Certificates, here are some common naming restrictions in the U.S.:

  • Derogatory terms
  • Obscenity
  • Offensive names
  • Foreign characters
  • Numbers
  • Diacritical marks
  • Hyphens
  • Asterisks
  • Apostrophes

In Georgia, symbols, including accents, are prohibited. But, according to The Bump, in South Carolina, you could name your baby K8, because numbers and symbols (ex: M!ke) are both allowed.

So let’s take a look at illegal baby names.  These names actually aren’t just illegal in Georgia and South Carolina, but they are illegal in all 50 states!

These 11 baby names are illegal, according to US Birth Certificates.
