Thomson Man Victim of Deadly Shooting
A two vehicle accident early this afternoon in south Augusta left one man dead. It happened when a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Lamarquez Benning of Augusta was hit by a car entering Peach Orchard Road from a parking lot near Phinizy Road. Benning was pronounced dead at the scene at 1 p.m.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says all northbound lanes and one southbound lane of Peach Orchard Road was shut down while emergency vehicles were on the scene. All lanes re-opened just before 4 p.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
