Fred McGriff Is Headed To The Baseball Hall Of Fame
Fred McGriff was selected as the newest member of the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday. The five-time All-Star played for 6 teams in his 19 year career including the Braves from 1994-97. McGriff was elected by the by contemporary era committee.
According to baseballhall.org, Fred McGriff totaled 493 home runs over 19 seasons with the Blue Jays, Padres, Braves, Devil Rays, Cubs and Dodgers that included eight 100-RBI campaigns and six years where he finished in the Top 10 of his league’s MVP voting. McGriff led his league in homers twice while compiling a .377 career on-base percentage.
“I’ve been totally blessed over the years,” McGriff said. “[This selection] is just icing on the cake. And for it to be unanimous, it’s a beautiful thing.”
McGriff received unanimous support, appearing on all 16 ballots cast. He will be inducted alongside any BBWAA selections on July 23 in Cooperstown, N.Y. The BBWAA results will be announced Jan. 24 on MLB Network, according to mlb.com
