Flags In Georgia Lowered To Honor Vince Dooley
All flags at state buildings in Georgia will be lowered to honor the late Vince Dooley. Gov. Brian Kemp signed an executive order saying all flags at state buildings are to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday November 5th.
According to the Office of the Governor, “Coach Dooley’s dedication to public service extended far beyond the football field and the University of Georgia, as he served as the state chairman for the Georgia Easter Seals Society for 30 years, including being named National Volunteer of the year in 1987, and contributed selfless charitable work for organizations such as The Heart Fund and Boy Scouts of America, and issues including multiple sclerosis, juvenile diabetes, and homelessness,” the order said.
When he retired from coaching in 1988, Coach Dooley and his wife established the Dooley Library Endowment Fund. He would continue to serve as the school’s Athletic Director until 2003.
Georgia will honor Coach Dooley on Saturday, as well as Charley Trippi, who was a legendary running back for the Bulldogs. The team will wear a special uniform patch to honor Dooley. A helmet decal will honor Trippi.
The game between Georgia and Tennessee starts at 3:30 p.m on Saturday. WGAC’s gameday coverage begins at 11:30 a.m. You can hear the game on 95.1 FM/AM 580 or on our free App or wgac.com.
