Tiger Woods Assumes A New Role.
The PGA tour announced today that Tiger Woods has agreed to become the sixth player director on the PGA Tour policy board. The board is composed of six player directors, five independent directors and the PGA of America director.
Who Is On The Board
Tiger will join, Patrick Cantlay, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati, Rory McIlroy and Webb Simpson as player directors. The independent directors are Ed Herlihy, Jimmy Dunne, Mark Flaherty and mary Meeker. There is also a yet to be named director to replace Randall Stephenson who resigned last month. Herlihy and Dunne are also members at Augusta National Golf Club. The last member is John Lindert from the PGA of America.

Quoting the Commissioner of the PGA Tour, Jay Monahan, “Tiger’s voice and leadership throughout his career have contributed immeasurably to the success of the PGA Tour, and to apply both our governance and go-forward plan at this crucial time is even more welcomed and impactful”

The players thank Commissioner Monahan for agreeing to address our concerns, and we look forward to being at the table with him to make the right decisions for the future of the game that we all love. He has my confidence moving forward with these changes.”
What Do I have To Say
It is, in some ways, an unusual move for Tiger to make when you consider that throughout his career he mainly stayed away from politics and controversary in order to concentrate on his golf game. It would appear as he is nearing the end of his competitive days on the course, he is ready and willing to take on new roles in the game. I’m happy to see him do this, I had always wished, and I believe his father had always wished he would take a more active role in the preservation of the game.
