WGAC Listeners Show Tremendous Support For Harlem High Teacher
Harlem High School teacher Jennifer Skrobisz has been in the spotlight over the last few days due to comments she made in class that were recorded by a student and uploaded to social media. Miss Skrobisz has issued an apology letter for the comments but most of WGAC’s listeners have shown an overwhelming amount of support for the teacher and Austin Rhodes offered his support as well:
Austin: So that was my life and that’s why I didn’t cuss in front of Ms. Whaley and Miss Hodges and Miss Capers and Miss Williams. Because I had a fear of and a respect for my parents. And my heart breaks that we have. And by the way, again, not goody two shoes tutti frutti Austin. No no no. Everybody I know at West Side. We just we behave differently. Dare I say it? Oh, yeah. Hell. Why not? We were better people. We were better behaved people. Above all, we were more respectful people. Our entire generation. Over the generation that we’re dealing with now.
Austin Makes A Promise
And teachers, please…Miss S refers in this letter to, resources that she could have taken advantage of and that she didn’t. I beg you out there. You do the right thing. And I promise you, as a parent, as a taxpayer. And as the husband of a teacher. I will do my level best to make sure that you’re never steamrolled. That nobody ever picks on you for doing the right thing. And by the way, if you don’t think what I’m saying is true or it matters; you probably haven’t had a conversation with a few education administrators in this area that have found out what happens when I find out what they’ve done wrong, and it’s been significant.
Doing The Right Thing
And by the way, it’s not magic, Austin. It’s just I’m the guy sitting in the chair. If Channel 12 had been given that information or the Augusta Press or whatever, they would have done the same thing, I’m sure. But I’m telling you, in Columbia County, I hate to say this. I can’t really attest to what would happen in Richmond County, because the politics down there are so screwy. I think you’ve got people down there that really try and do the right thing and want to do the right thing, but God forbid there ever becomes a racial component involved in anything.
Things go sideways. I just I’ve lost a lot of faith in the leadership, the appointed leadership and some elected leaders in the Richmond County school system. But in Columbia County, I’ve not lost that yet when given information that they need to act on. Generally speaking, they do the right thing. There are exceptions, but generally speaking, they do the right thing.
Parents Need To Do Better
And I’m telling you again, teachers, listen, please. If you feel like you’re not getting support from your administrators, let us know. This lady claims and says, and I’m not arguing with her a bit. It’s her situation. I would never in a million years step between her and what she says was her responsibility, or her in her duty. If she wants to take that blame herself, then she’ll do that. But if there’s ever a time when you have done the right thing and in essence, the right thing hasn’t been done back for you or on your behalf. We’re here for you. Miss S.. God bless you.
I cannot say that I’ve ever heard a more sincere, letter. I’m very, very sorry that your personal situation with the passing of your fiancé in December and all the stress that this must have caused you. Again, I’m very, very sorry that all of this happened, but I think that you have responded as well as you possibly could under the circumstance. And lessons have been learned by all involved. I’ll say this one last time as we go to break. If you have a child in your house between the ages of, oh, about 12 and 18 or 19, and they’re in the school system, public or private, and they use that language where a teacher can hear him. Not only should their butt be kicked, yours should be too.
