Austin talks the upcoming sheriff’s election in Richmond County and Columbia County.
Transcript:
Austin: Rickabaugh, the editor of The Jail Report and the crime reporter, chief crime reporter for the Augusta Press, will be in this afternoon hosting the Austin Rhodes Show from 3 to 6. His guests will include the three men who are hoping to challenge Richard Roundtree for sheriff in Richmond County in the next election cycle, which, again, the primaries will come in a few months. The general election, of course, is in November.
Among those three candidates seeking to replace Roundtree is Richard Dixon, who is running as an independent, which means he’s going to have to collect well over 5000 signatures to make his place on the ballot to secure that come November. In Columbia County, the long awaited announcement from Pat Clayton, the former chief deputy in Richmond County, that he would be seeking office running against Clay Whittle. He is going to be running against him as also an independent. He is going to need over 5300 signatures to secure his place on the ballot.
Again, lots of conversation here and a lot of very pointed questions to Pat Clayton. He thinks he can get the stink of Richard Roundtree’s poor management of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department off of him, and that he can be independent of that. And I’m saying no way, no how, especially not against the incumbent, very popular chair of Clay Whittle. But I’m sure that Rickabaugh will go over these points. Pat Clayton will be in at I think 4:30 or 5, something like that.
So all the major challengers to the announced incumbent sheriff’s rather, both Richmond and Columbia County, listen in today at 3 on the Austin Rhodes Show and hear it all. I’ll be back Tuesday. In the meantime, Happy New Year. And that’s the comment, I’m Austin Rhodes, AM 580/95.1 FM, News Talk WGAC.
