Richmond County Deputy Jailer Accused of Sexual Misconduct
A Richmond County Deputy Jailer has been accused of sexual misconduct involving a female from the Public Defender’s Office.
The victim alleges the incident took place in an interview room at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center with Deputy Jailer Joseph Clarke.
A news release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says investigators determined that probable cause existed to charge Deputy Clark with Criminal Attempt Aggravated Sodomy, False Imprisonment, Sexual Battery, and Violation of Oath by Public Officer.
Clarke was arrested today and booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. He was subsequently terminated.
Clarke began his employment with the Sheriff’s Office on October 31, 2020.
A statement from the Sheriff’s Office says, “This incident will follow the same course as any other criminal investigation, and no other information will be provided at this time.
