The Man That Did The Deal For The PGA Tour And The Saudis
Meet the man that did the deal for the Tour and the Saudis. Jimmy Dunne is the man credited with getting the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund together.
Dunne works on Wall Street for Piper Sandler, an investment bank and financial services company involved with mergers and acquisitions.
He was one of the founders of Sandler O’ Neill and Partners, which in January of 2020 was acquired by Piper Jaffray.
Dunne is a graduate of Notre Dame and a Long Island native. Dunne is a member of some of the most exclusive clubs in the country. He belongs to Augusta National, Pine Valley, Shinnecock and National Golf Links. He’s also a member and the President of Seminole Golf Club in Florida.
Dunne was asked late last year to become a member of the PGA Tour’s Policy Board as an Independent Director.
What we’re learning and what you’ll see and hear in this interview is that he played a huge role in bringing the PGA tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund together. He did all of this despite being deeply opposed to LIV Golf. As you’ll hear in the interview, Dunne credits golf for saving his life on 9/11. Instead of going to work on that fateful day, he was out of the office, trying to qualify for the US Mid-Amateur. He lost friends and colleagues that day and went on to create a foundation that would pay for the college tuition for all 76 of the children of his fallen friends.
Much of this is talked about in the interview. Dunne makes his positions very clear on the topic of 9/11, the Saudis and whether or not the PGA Tour will stay in control of it’s product. All questions that have come up since the announcement.
