North Augusta Woman Charged with Unborn Baby’s Death
An Aiken County woman who delivered a stillborn baby last July at Piedmont Augusta Hospital is now behind bars in connection with the infant’s death.
Thirty-one-year-old Erin Grandy of North Augusta was rushed to the hospital via ambulance July 6, due to heavy bleeding. North Augusta Public Safety says she admitted to medical personnel at the hospital that she had consumed heroin and fentanyl within the last 24 hours.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section shortly after she arrived at the hospital, but the baby was pronounced dead when delivered.
Grandy was arrested today and charged with Murder/Homicide by Child Abuse. She faces a sentence of 20 years to life in prison, if found guilty. Grandy is being held without bond in the Aiken County Detention Center.
