Inmate Strangled at Augusta Medical Prison, Another Inmate Charged
An apparent homicide is under investigation following the death of an inmate at Augusta State Medical Prison on Gordon Highway last month.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said 60-year-old Amos Huff was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m. March 30. An autopsy has been performed, but results are not available yet.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says 26-year-old Johnathan Randy Fesperman has been charged with Huff’s death. He was booked yesterday at the Richmond County Detention Center.
Fesperman is accused of strangling Huff early last Thursday evening. Inmates said they heard the commotion in the cell and authorities said Fesperman admitted to guards that he had strangled Huff.
Fesperman was serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery, weapons charges and vehicle break-ins.
