Columbia County Inmate Found Dead in Cell Thursday Night
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate at the detention center in Appling was found unresponsive in his cell last night.
Major Steve Morris says 55-year-old Jerry Robert Wisdom was found around 8 p.m. by authorities who administered CPR until EMS and Fire Rescue arrived. Wisdom was later pronounced dead by the Columbia County Coroner’s Office.
Morris said, “Based on our preliminary investigation, no foul play is suspected.” Wisdom’s body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
Wisdom had been held at the Columbia County Detention Center since October 20, 2022 on charges of Aggravated Child Molestation and two counts of Felony Child Molestation. He was being held on $100,000 bond.
