Aiken County Schools Will Have A Remote Learning Day On Friday
WGAC has learned that Aiken County students and staff will operate remotely on Friday.
The below message was shared with staff, then parents a few minutes ago:
In anticipation of high winds and heavy rainfall resulting from the weather system that is predicted to impact our area later this week, all Aiken County schools and offices will operate remotely on Friday, September 30.
Students should leave school tomorrow with their laptops in hand and all remote assignments for Friday’s e-learning day downloaded to their device. Power outages may occur in some areas, so laptops are asked to be fully charged ahead of the storm.
Students in kindergarten and first grade may be assigned remote work that’s to be completed with pencil and paper. Parents and guardians of those younger students will be provided information about student assignments accordingly.
In collaboration with County Emergency Management Officials, our district leaders have been monitoring this weather system to make the best possible decision regarding the safety of in-person learning for Friday. There are many safety considerations impacting this decision and we recognize the difficulties of remote learning for many students and families. Weather systems are difficult to predict. Based on the information available to us at this time, we believe this decision to be in the best interest of our students, staff and families.
Specific information regarding e-learning assignments will follow from individual teachers and schools.
