Man Dies in Vehicle Fire at Gas Station
Columbia County authorities are investigating a fatal vehicle fire overnight at the Pilot gas station on Jimmie Dyess Parkway off I-20.
Employees said a man filled up a camper van with gas around 3:00 this morning, then went inside and purchased a lighter. The customer then moved the van to the back of the parking lot.
Minutes later, workers reported hearing an explosion. They went outside and found the van on fire.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was found in the back of the vehicle. Authorities have only identified him as a white male.
Investigators are still trying to determine what happened.
