Runoff Election June 18: What You Need to Know
In Richmond County, races for sheriff and a seat on the Superior Court bench will be decided. In Columbia County, voters will pick the winner in the Republican General Primary runoff for Georgia House District 131.
The runoff election June 18 will have two races on the ballot in Richmond County and just one in Columbia County.
The runoffs are needed to decide those races, since no one candidate got the required 50%, plus one, to win the General Primary and Nonpartisan Election outright May 21.
Polls will be open statewide on June 18 from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm. Election results will be posted at www.wgac.com and on the WGAC Facebook page.
Runoff Races On the Richmond County Ballot
- Sheriff: Incumbent Richard Roundtree and challenger Eugene “Gino Rock” Brantley are vying for the Democratic nomination.
- Superior Court judge on the Augusta Judicial Circuit: Either Matt Matson or Charles Lyons will be elected to the seat, succeeding Daniel Craig.
Richmond County Board of Elections Director Travis Doss says about 6%, or nearly 7,400 of the county’s registered voters, cast early or absentee ballots. He’s expecting a 15% to 20% turnout on Tuesday.
On the Columbia County Ballot
- Georgia House District 131: Paul Abbott and Rob Clifton are vying for the seat currently held by Jodi Lott, who decided not to seek re-election.
Keep in Mind:
- This is not a countywide election in Columbia County
- If you voted a democratic ballot in the May primary or you do not reside within Georgia House District 131, you will not be able to participate
- You must go to your assigned precinct to vote
- 16 precincts will be open for voting
Must Haves for Election Day
- A valid photo identification. Acceptable forms of voter identification include a driver’s license or a U.S. passport. The State of Georgia also offers a free voter ID card (https://dds.georgia.gov/voter-id) which can be issued at any County Board of Registrar’s Office and can be used to vote.
