Four dead in Aiken County due to Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene Victims in Aiken County have been released by Coroner Darryl Ables.

All four deaths were the result of destruction as Hurricane Helene passed through the CSRA with wind speeds that topped 80 miles per hour.

The Coroner's Office was called to a home on Metts Park Circle in Aiken where a tree had crashed through a home. Ables said a 70-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:50 am. His name has not been released pending notification of family members.

Hurricane Helene Victims Include a Visitor from New York

A short time later, 29-year-old Michael Roukous of Dexter, New York was killed when a tree crashed through the roof of the Bed and Breakfast home he was renting in the 100 block of Casnettie Road in Beech Island. Roukous was pronounced dead at 9:52 am.

Ables was also called to the 300 block of Church Road in Beech Island where 78-year-old Jerry Savage and his wife, 74-year-old Marcia Savage, were killed after a tree crashed through the roof of their home, landing on the couple. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Ables said all four victims will be autopsied in Newberry on Wednesday, October 2.

A total of 17 deaths have been reported in South Carolina due to Hurricane Helene.
