Westmont Elementary classes won't be held in the new building on Oakley Pirkle Road this week as hoped.

Students have been attending classes at the Performing Arts Center in Evans since August 5, but an important change has been announced for tomorrow, August 16.

All Westmont Elementary School students will report to the Columbia County School District Support Department Complex at 4395 River Watch Parkway.

Westmont Elementary Classes Information for August 16

  • .Kindergarten and first-grade students will be dropped off at the support department complex. Students will spend the day rotating between learning stations including visiting a fire truck, an ambulance, and an animal adaptation presentation.
  • Students in grades 2-5 will arrive at the support department complex to check in and have breakfast before departing on their scheduled field trips. All students, including those on field trips, will return to the support department complex for dismissal.
  • For car line pick-up and drop-off, all vehicles should enter the support department complex via River Watch Parkway.
  • Before and after-school care will be available at the complex for those who are registered.
  • Grab-and-go breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students, including those participating in field trips.
  • Self-contained students will remain at their current temporary locations.

Important School District Statement

"Tomorrow, Friday, Augusta 16, 2024, Westmont Elementary School students will move to the Columbia County School District Support Department Complex, as planned.

While we have been told by the contractor that the building will be ready for students next week, parents are encouraged to review the contingency plans regarding temporary accommodations at the Columbia County Exhibition Center, if needed.

We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may have caused. As soon as we receive updates on building occupancy from the contractor we will notify parents."
