A Burke County pursuit early this morning started with the Burke County Sheriff's Office getting a call about a disturbance at a home in the 2400 block of Hickson Road.

The woman making the call said her daughter was afraid to go to her home because her former boyfriend, 34-year-old Labranford Brown of Waynesboro, was there and she didn't feel safe to return.

The woman reportedly left the home earlier with her sister after the disturbance with Brown. She told deputies Brown had tried to run them off the road with his SUV at Magruder Road.

Burke County Pursuit Began after Deputies Spotted Brown

Deputies were given a description of Brown's vehicle and spotted it a short time later on Highway 305 heading south. A chase ensued once Brown refused to stop when deputies tried to pull him over.

"I was able to catch up to the vehicle while the vehicle was making a right-hand turn on Wyatt Place Road. The vehicle was failing to stop, I advised dispatch at that time I would be in pursuit of the vehicle and the speed was 98 mph, and no traffic. The vehicle continued straight on Wyatt Place Road and speeds reached 100 mph with no traffic," according to the police incident report.

Deputies said Brown lost control of his Chevrolet Tahoe on Wyatt Place Road at Ivey Road, causing it to hit an embankment and then a tree. The SUV then rolled over.

Brown was taken to Burke Health ER for an evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. He's now in the Burke County Detention Center

Charges Against Brown

  • Reckless Driving (misdemeanor)
  • Fleeing/attempting to elude (felony)
