The A.R. Johnson Magnet School threat that was posted on social media Thursday turned out to be a hoax, according to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators were made aware of the post, which said the school at 1324 Laney Walker Boulevard in Augusta would be the target of a school shooting.

During the course of the investigation, authorities found the juvenile responsible for the post.

"The juvenile was transported to the Criminal Investigations Division and interviewed. The juvenile did admit that this was a joke, and he had no intentions of shooting up the school," according to a news release from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. John Perry said it should also be noted the juvenile did not have any access to weapons.

He has been charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts and was taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Augusta.

A.R. Johnson Threat One Day After Gun Found at Cross Creek High School

A gun was confiscated Thursday at Cross Creek High School after administrators were told that a student had brought a weapon to school.

The student told police he was showing it to other students and there was never any intention to use it. He had reportedly put the gun in his backpack before heading to school.

The student was charged with Felony Weapon in a School Building, Disrupting Public School, and Possession of a Handgun by a Person Under 18.

A letter was sent to Cross Creek parents informing them of the incident.
