Rhodes Rants: Tragedy in Athens
Austin Rhodes shares his thoughts on the murder at UGA and the role our current administration’s policies had in allowing it to happen.
Austin: It would be laughable if the punchline weren’t so tragic. And that’s that a young woman is forever lost at the hands of a murderous thug. But the lengths to which the police chief in Athens and the authorities in Athens tried to not use the word illegal alien or illegal immigrant or undocumented immigrant or any of that. It was breathtaking.
I started getting word very early Friday afternoon. We hinted around to it here a little bit. Started getting word very early Friday afternoon, mid show that it was going to end up being an illegal alien. There were some very rude comments made about the UGA, brain trust, was breathing a gasp of relief that a football player wasn’t involved. There has not been a murder on that campus in over 30 years, and I believe that one was discovered to be a, sadly, young person trying to disguise the birth of a baby that she didn’t want. The last violent attack was so long ago no one could even remember what it was.
Now, there have been violent attacks on students that have happened in other places in the city, but virtually everyone thought or believed that the campus itself was this sanctuary of safe – Dare I use that word – was this bastion of safe and, you know, sometimes risque and naughty, but never violent or deadly behavior and an illegal alien shattered that all to hell and back Friday afternoon.
Now, folks, anyone that wants to say, you know what, you’re capitalizing. You’re getting political on it. We have hundreds of thousands. I’m not going to say millions, because I think it would be, severe overreach to say that all of the folks that are here are here to be criminals. But I can guarantee you it’s in the hundreds of thousands. And we had a glimpse of this man Ibarra. We’ve had a glimpse of this man’s behavior pattern and intent because of his arrest here on American soil, since he illegally came into the country.
I’ve had a lot of people ask me this question, and I’m going to try and answer to the best of my ability: in the state of Georgia, how this can be. But there are sanctuary communities, cities within the state of Georgia that still want to call themselves sanctuary communities. And one of them is Athens. Now, the state of Georgia hit back on this some years ago, saying, if you get any state funding, you’re not allowed to call yourself that. You’re not allowed to act that way. But some still drag their feet when it comes to reporting incidents or cooperating with immigration and other, other inquiries into the legality of someone’s, well….their legal status in America.
And it’s got to stop, number one. We need every single person that comes across this border that we come into contact with, whether it is someone that we catch coming across illegally or someone that comes across legally to to give both fingerprints and a DNA sample. And, you know, have that in the database. If, God forbid, they turn up doing something wrong or that they shouldn’t be doing. Also, it helps if they’ve got brothers, uncles, cousins, sisters, mommas, daddies doing the same thing from the DNA standpoint. But we need to be able to prove who these people are at a moment’s notice. And I don’t mean that even in a punitive sense.
There was an individual associated with this guy, his brother, supposedly, who had a fake green card, and it was good enough to get him on the job briefly in a food services position on the University of Georgia campus. Ironically, when asked to provide further documentation, he could not come up with it. So eventually he was terminated. But he got in the door. And with someone who has nefarious intent, that’s really all they’re looking for anyway.
But I’m often curious…Are there that many positions in Athens that need to be going to documented or undocumented for that matter, aliens, when there are plenty of college students and that seem to always be looking for ways to pay off tuition costs or get part time jobs, or just Athens residents that you know need the extra work? Isn’t that funny? How somebody that’s an illegal alien, even with a fake green card, can get state employment. I mean working for the university system in food service. At any point. To me, that’s…that’s insane.
Look who’s in charge. Understand what his mission was. The day that he took office, he rolled back protections against illegals coming into this country illegally. He rolled back enforcement. He changed the policy and as a result, this country has been swarmed with legal and illegal aliens, legitimate and illegitimate immigrants. And they keep coming every day. And tomorrow. Is it tomorrow that both he and Trump, Biden and Trump have visits scheduled to the southern border?
And Biden, as you just heard on Fox News a minute ago, is going to Brownsville, which is one of the slowest and most underused portals for the illegals that that we have – just a couple of hundred daily. In the meantime, Tucson and San Diego, where you’ve got thousands a day. That’s, I think that’s where Trump’s going. So you’ve got, you know same song, different verse, different singer. They’re very seriously trying to approach this from two different angles. And, you know, you can understand why on both occasions.
But let’s back this up. Let’s put Biden aside and let’s but Trump aside. What kind of frigging message was Biden sending? And anyone in the Democratic Party, for that matter, doing anything but mandating the very strictest of entry guidelines into this country. The law is the law. You do not come into this country without paperwork or without applying for paperwork. And if you do, you are guilty of a federal crime. Do you understand that? Do you understand that?
Right this minute, if I were to say, hop in a boat, a rowboat, and pull up on the shores of Great Britain with no passport, no work visa. I’m not entitled to citizenship the way the Cubans are here, but we’ll put that aside for a minute. I would be immediately taken to a holding cell. And there would be no other answer for Austin except deportation, unless they dropped me off in a UK jail for, you know, six months to a year for illegal entry. And that’s basically the way it is everywhere. Do you understand that? But not America? No, because we’re so much smarter than everyone else.
Trump, as imperfect as he has been since the day he was born, has the far superior attitude on this, has the far superior policy on this, and he was trying to ensure that these entry portals did exist in but so many places when he had the wall under construction and pretty much everywhere the wall is, unless it’s been abandoned. And there sadly, are some areas like that, it’s effective.
They don’t go through it. They they will pick a spot that they’ve bulldozed a hole through because it’s again unattended and unrepaired. And they’re not going through the wall. They’re not going over the wall. Can’t. They can’t. They will find a spot where the wall is either been compromised and not repaired, because it’s the Biden administration’s policy not to do that, or they’ll just go where it was stopped under construction and cross there. And they do that a lot, too. In the meantime, the piles of rotted material and rusting material have been sitting there because Biden immediately said “gotta stop it, gotta stop it”. Showing himself to be such a smart ass.
I mean, he has ruined the security of the border. Ruined it and and not seemed to have cared much about it. Now, ladies and gentlemen, God forbid. We have some horrible anti-Semitic person who opens up gunfire in a synagogue. God forbid some homophobic, gay hating person that opens up gunfire in a nightclub where gay people are dancing. God forbid we have a black person that kills a bunch of white people. I don’t know about that one. That might be one that he doesn’t comment on much, but you let some politically incorrect schmuck do something terrible and horrible to his intended victims group.
Whether it be Jewish folks, Palestinian folks, gay people, Jewish people, whatever. I mean, women, whatever. And the president will be “Well, once again, we have gun violence, once again” and yet these illegals commit these horrific acts. And the man doesn’t have bupkis to say. Has President Biden said anything about Lakin Riley? No, of course not. Not a word.
And the people in Athens, Clark County, tiptoed around this like nobody’s business. Tomorrow on this program, Mike Collins our 10th district congressman is going to be here. And his post Friday night summed it up beautifully. And I want you to keep in mind this came out Friday evening. This was not something that came out after a whole lot of prepared study. He didn’t have to prepare. All he had to be told is we just got an illegal alien that killed an innocent girl.
And this is what he said on Twitter Friday evening: “The blood of Laken Riley is on the hands of Joe Biden, Alejandro Mayorkas and the government of Athens-Clarke County. The Venezuelan suspect in Lakin Riley’s murder is one of millions of illegal aliens that the Biden administration has released into this country to be welcomed with open arms by Democrat run sanctuary jurisdictions.
This man had no business being in America, much less the UGA community, to brutally murder this young American while she was on a run. To put this in simpler terms, if this border was secure and Athens not a sanctuary city. Laken Riley would be alive, she would still be talking to her family, hanging out with her friends, studying to be a nurse, and working toward serving her community and saving the lives of others. Instead, she’s dead because the people who took an oath to preserve our Constitution and faithfully execute our laws refused to do so because they think it benefits them politically. If the leaders responsible for this have any honor, they will resign. If they don’t, the people need to remove them.” Abso- freaking-lutely. Way to go, Congressman Collins.
