Austin talks about his conversation with Columbia County Administrator Scott Johnson about the incorporation of Columbia County.
Transcript:
Austin Rhodes:Had an opportunity to sit down with Columbia County Administrator Scott Johnson yesterday on the radio show and discuss the ins and outs of incorporation for Columbia County and the benefits it could bring. There does seem to be a slight upcharge on utilities that Scott tells us in the interview can be refunded or reimbursed back to the taxpayers through a property tax rollback.
Again, this is about 8 or $9 million a year plus untold benefits as far as applying for federal grants and things of that nature. It would make all of unincorporated Columbia County a city. And again, the benefits. I think we would become the fifth-largest city in Georgia overnight with that destination. Is it worth looking into? Most definitely.
A feasibility study has been done, and all of that material is about to be released to the public. We got a copy of it the media did a couple of days ago. I’ve read through the report. It looks like a very professional and solid case is being made for incorporation. It would have to go through with a public vote. I don’t think that your politicians are going to try and steamroll this thing through. Everyone would be able to vote on this, and if it passes a public referendum, we’re in.
If it doesn’t pass, then it’s over with. But it’s something that certainly Columbia County should consider. It seems like a very positive development for the community. And again, a great way to to collect some money that’s just basically sitting on the table right now waiting to be taken. Check out that report when it comes out. The entire interview’s at the Austin Rhodes Show page on Facebook just looked at it myself a moment ago. And that’s the comment, I’m Austin Rhodes, AM 580/95.1 FM News Talk WGAC.
Georgia Spot Among the Best Cheap Spring Break Trips
Spring break always arrives at just the right time. It’s when the holiday cheer has totally worn off, and it’s also right when spring is around the corner but it’s not quite here yet. I remember loving spring break in school. But, even if you’re not in school or college anymore, why not take a fun spring break trip this year? Thankfully, there are plenty of trendy, cheap spring break destinations available. One Georgia spot is even among the best cheap spring break trips in the US.
If you want to get the most bang for your buck, as they say, stay close to home. It doesn’t have to be a staycation. But, why not travel to a town that you’ve never been to that’s within road trip distance? Of course, if you live in a cold climate, you might want to travel to a hot spot. The good news is that a lot of warm spring break destinations have great rates, because tourist is simply their business. So, if you go to a popular spring break spot, chances are they’ll have some good deals and be able to cut you a good deal due to just how many people who travel there each year.
The perfect spring break destination is really about getting away from it all. You want a place that fun and exciting. But, you also want a spot that really helps you break away from routine and, hopefully, your electronic devises. Another bonus is if you find a spring break destination near friends who you maybe haven’t seen in a while. It can be a really fun trip to find a central location and meet up with long-lost friends.
