The entire country is dealing with a shortage of Emergency Medical Responders and Augusta is no exception.

Gold Cross EMS, locally owned emergency medical provider in the CSRA, is hosting a paid 3-week long training academy for those interested in becoming a certified Emergency Medical Responder.

Classes begin Monday, November 27, at Gold Cross EMS headquarters at 4328 Wheeler Road in Martinez.  Those interested should submit an application online at www.goldcrossems.com by Monday, November 20.

There is no cost for the training.  Participants will complete a 40-hour work week and take all necessary coursework to prepare for the national examination.  Uniforms, textbooks and equipment will be provided for those accepted for the training.  Full-time employment with benefits will begin on the first day of class, with health insurance included.

"Here is another great opportunity for anyone looking to become a first responder.  Our first two classes were such a success, we decided to do another class," said Gold Cross President and CEO Vince Brogdon.

Brogdon said graduates will get an immediate wage increase and then qualify for other incentives and promotions once they are certified.   He said graduates also become immediately eligible to receive benefits that include paid time-off; health, dental and vision benefits; life insurance; and employer-matched 401K.

"I love the fact that we can bring people in from our own community and they will learn skills in this class that an change and save lives.  Also, just as important, they can work for a locally owned company that believes in this community and takes care of this community," said Brogdon.
