Graduating Seniors in Georgia Gifted a Book on Financial Literacy
Oh how helpful that would have been. In the past, graduating seniors got a hearty congratulations, a pat on the back, and now go out and do great things speech at graduation. Seniors graduating this year in Georgia have a nice parting gift that is oh so helpful and practical.
Georgia native Dale Alexander, longtime employee benefits broker and certified financial planner, has written a book called “The Talk: A Young Adult’s Guide to the One Decision that Changes Everything.” Alexander has made it a point to teach young people how to manage their money before they even get their first full-time paycheck.
Alexander gifted all 120,000 graduating high school seniors with a copy of his book recently.
Alexander told Fox News, “It’s going from nothing to the most money you’ve ever seen in your life. Literally, you will never have this moment again.”
When speaking to high school and college students throughout the state, Alexander emphasizes they should live on only 70% of their income once they have their first real job, 20% should be set aside for saving and investing, and the remaining 10% should be given away.
School administrators across the state have been so impressed with Alexander’s program that they asked if his book could be made available to every senior in Georgia once it was published last year. Alexander and his wife took that request a step further and decided to use their own charitable foundation to provide a book free of charge to every graduating senior.
“We could literally have our state physically looking different in 30 years if thousands of its kids are some of the wealthiest, most generous people in the world. I mean, what a great legacy for us to leave behind,” said Alexander.
His book is available on Amazon.com in paperback, hardback and for Kindle.
