Looks Like a Soggy Masters Tournament on the Way
The sun is shining today and Augusta could see a near record-high temperature of 87 degrees this afternoon. In fact, the weather should be picture-perfect for the Par 3 tournament today. Speaking of pictures, today is the last day cameras are allowed on the course.
According to the National Weather Service, today is the last day we’ll see sunshine in the forecast. Cloudy skies with stray showers are predicted for the start of the 87th Masters Tournament Thursday morning. Scattered thunderstorms are expected Thursday night. Patrons will definitely want an umbrella and rain jacket for the rest of the weekend. Showers are expected to start the second round of the tournament Friday, with steady rainfall in the afternoon. Saturday is the day the heaviest rainfall is expected. Meteorologists say up to 1/2 inch is likely with temperatures dropping down into the low 50s. There’s a 70% chance of rain for the final round of the Masters on Sunday with the high temperature only expected to reach the upper 50s.
It’s anybody’s guess as to whether the rain will be heavy enough to halt play. It’s been 40 years since the Masters had to finish on a Monday due to the weather.
