Fox Creek Middle School To Open Next Year In North Augusta
Fox Creek High School will welcome Fox Creek Middle to its property on Shortcut Road in North Augusta in 2026, serving students in Aiken and Edgefield Counties.
The new middle school, housing grades 6 through 8, will also be a member of the South Carolina Public Charter School District, just like Fox Creek High School.
Funding for the new $22 million middle school campus was secured in 2024 with original plans to open in 2027, but officials say that’s being moved up by a year.
Fox Creek High School Executive Director Josh Trahan has been involved in the planning and funding for the new middle school, but said a principal for the new school will be hired soon and will oversee the project.
Though the new Fox Creek Middle School will be able to house up to 600 students, it’s estimated that enrollment for the first year could be about half that number.
It’s athletic teams will be known as The Predators, with red and black chosen as the school’s colors, just like Fox Creek High School.
Initially, there are plans for Football, Cheerleading, Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Golf, Girls Golf, Boys Soccer and Girls Soccer at the middle school. An additional 15 clubs and activities will be available to students as well.
Fox Creek Middle Needed Due to Growth
There’s been significant growth in the Aiken and Edgefield County areas in recent years, leading to the need for more schools. In fact, the Merriwether area near Fox Creek High School has seen quite an increase in its population. Adding Fox Creek Middle School means those 6th through 8th graders will be able to make a smooth transition, when it’s time, to Fox Creek High.
Fox Creek High School opened its doors in 2004 on Martintown Road, then moved into the new $5.5 million building in 2009, where the school now sits on Shortcut Road.
The school doubled in size with an $8.5 million expansion in 2016. It now has just under 700 students in grades 9-12 and is one of only 17 high schools in the Public Charter School district in South Carolina.
